This sanctuary in Rangayyanadurga, declared in 2011, houses a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna, including rare species like the four-horned antelope, spotted deer, sloth bear, leopard, and various birds. The sanctuary is strictly protected from unauthorized activities and has seen an increase in unique species such as chinkara, porcupine, hare, pangolin, and mongoose.
This area covers villages like Gurusiddapura, Magadi, Agasanahalli, Kelagote, Ujjappanahalli, Jadanakatte, Guddadalinganna Halli, Ainali, Gode, and Pallagatte, comprising around 30 villages. The Forest Department has provided free ST and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) cylinder distribution for the forest-dwelling communities. To prevent encroachment and violation of forest laws, stringent punishments are enforced, and approximately 2 kilometers of solar fencing has been installed near Kelagote.
During the rule of the prominent Mauryan emperor Ashoka, the Mauryan Empire extended widely into Karnataka. Remnants of major inscriptions and hero stones are found in areas like Kalledevarapura, Belachoda, and Asagodu in the taluk.
